Episode 178: Just One Cup

Amy Podcast

A challenge for the month (or whenever you join us)… in words, in line, in thread… a simple challenge to help us make time each day for our creative selves.

  1. I think the name “Creative Mom Podcast” is a good one. I can’t think of a better one, but I am also not in your head. I think it describes the magnitude of creativity it takes to be a mom, but also describing oneself as a mom who wants to be creative. There is, for me, implied challenges in the name because of wanting/needing to be creative and being a mom, which takes a ton of time. I do know that having ‘mom’ in the title can put people off. Also, as our children get older being a mom becomes part of our identity but not our entire all consuming identity as it does when the children are small, so I understand the basis of your thought process around that.

I also understand the notion of having a clean, shiny month in which to start something. However, the reality of that is that I almost never notice it is the first of the month. If I do notice then I am not prepared to start. I have a hope of starting some project on New Year’s Day, but hope is the operative word. Thus, I have adopted the ‘start from where you are” attitude. It gives **me** less of an excuse to not start or procrastinate. No judgments on anyone else.

I am listening to this at the end of May, so I missed the challenge for the month of March, but the shipping labels are on my mind and cups might be a good thing to draw on them. Having a theme and drawing (or whatever) them over and over is confined enough, but broad enough to be interesting.

    1. Cups on your shipping tags would be very interesting! A very small and contained space. Give it a go! And you are quite right, months roll in…

    2. “Start from where you are” is a very important approach and philosophy – for sure! Yes, I agree, it is easy to get stuck and paralyzed by the perfection of starting on a perfect day or exactly on the “first” of a month.
