Draw Along 2 Episode 398

Episode 398 of the CMP, a Creativity Matters Podcast — another field-note style draw along

In this episode of the CMP, the second in back-to-back draw along shows….. in real time, they were separated by a day. In this episode, another timed drawing session – 20 minutes. I work on drawing a sweet portrait of a little girl holding a dandelion to her face for the “Dandelion” ICAD prompt. While I draw, I talk to you. Getting children’s proportions and their cute “roundness” can be difficult!

Grab your own drawing, journal, knitting, or creative project, and work along as you listen.

Because I was using it to balance my work while drawing, I mentioned my plastic “clipboard” (which opens up on the side and makes it handy to store cards in progress and blank cards, too). I tend to really like using this board during ICAD. It’s perfect as a lapdesk when working on index cards and provides a sturdy surface and excellent portability. When I tried to get another one a few years ago, the one I ended up with wasn’t sturdy enough (the top bowed when drawing on it). I checked yesterday, and I see one by the same brand as the one I have at Amazon. It’s possible this one really is the same and would be nice and sturdy if you need a portable solution, too. (It comes in several colors, including yellow, orange, blue, and pink.)

While drawing and talking about my pencil not erasing well last week (ahhh, index cards!), I muse out loud about using colored pencil instead for the sketching and just leaving that and letting it show. After talking about that, I looked at Amazon to see what my options might be in the .9 range. There are not many .9 options, but there are lots of .5 and .7 colored lead options for those of you that use mechanical pencils and are curious. Some links appear below.

Random find: look at these sweet rainbow-colored 4×6 cases:

We are still in a pandemic

It can be easy to get weighed down by everything going on, by the anxiety and the uncertainty. But there are silver linings and gifts. I encourage you to look for them.

(The looking, in and of itself, offers a different mindset. You might find that the act of seeking and discovering helps shift your perspective in meaningful ways.)

A note about Trello: I’m feeling really productive with my reading and my “To Read” list this year using Trello. I use Trello for other things, including tracking my 50 Before 50 list, but I am finding new book lover’s peace this year with Trello boards set up to help me keep track of books I want to read, Kindle books I snag on a deal, books I hear about in groups or on other podcasts, and then the books I actually am reading or listening to. If you haven’t tried Trello, you should! (It’s free!)

Using the library, when possible, is always my first recommendation for reviewing books firsthand.
