Episode 471 of the CMP, a Creativity Matters Podcast — Urban sketching, Inktoportraits and October drawing, and maybe a bird or two
This episode is about an urban sketching workshop/demo I attended last week at the library and ties in with Episode 470 on embracing a beginner mindset. It can be a bit awkward to be a beginner sometimes. Just sink into it.
October Drawing
This show was recorded on October 1, before I did my first drawings for #inktoportraits and #birdtober. I ended up taking a slightly different approach. I also talk in this show about a loose plan for going out each day and doing a quick (really) and loose (really) urban sketch to try and give myself a month of intentional practice and see how it feels.
Books
A few books mentioned in this episode (from a library moment): Show Your Work (Austin Kleon), Reinvention Roadmap (Liz Ryan), Pop Manga.
Inktoportraits in October (or Inktober)
I am doing Inktoportaits again this October for my daily drawing and for my “Inktober”-focused work. More information is in this Instagram post. To see a short reel of my Inktober series from 2019, 2020, and 2021, click here.
